Settling in Part One

I thought it was about time I added something to this blog, in case you are all getting tired of David’s ramblings…

We are settling in well, it’s quite cool in Nairobi so the temperature change has not been too much of a shock for us and after a couple of tired days we are feeling a little less sleep deprived and a little more relaxed.

Tommy has become Nairobi’s star attraction; to the extent that when I entered the internet cafe the staff were all asking me where he was, and that every other person who meets him picks him up, plays with him and tries to get him to speak in Swahili.

I have been up to the university and met most of the staff, they seem really nice and have appointed me as a ‘research associate’ so that I can get on with my work here. In exchange I will have to present a few seminars, but this should be good practice, and hopefully they will give me some useful somments too. I haven’t met my supervisor yet though, I am meeting him on Monday morning.

We have booked our tickets to Kisumu, so the next big adventure is finding somewhere to live there. We are travelling overnight by sleeper train, each cabin has two bunks, so David and I are fighting over who will share with Tommy (who is likely to be the most excited -and wriggly - little boy in the whole of East Africa when he realises he actually gets to go to bed on a train)!

Anyway, that’s about all for now, thanks for all the comments,

Hannah x

Good to hear that you’ve arrived safely. Found a taxi cab under a cushion in the conservatory - something for Tommy to enjoy on his next visit!
I used to travel to Scotland by sleeper - in the morning there was a cup of tea with an Abernethy biscuit. What’s the E.African equivalent? Best way to travel I think.. love, Carol

David keep the camera handy, some photos added to give us some view of the place. An adventure to be recorded day by day for future reference when you actually get writing the GREAT BOOK!
