We are receiving guests now….

We have moved to an enormous house in its own grounds.

It has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a huge living room, a study, and what seems to us the equavalent a botanical garden.

It comes with a live in gardener and two guard dogs too. We now have a live in house help (we have staff housing too) and a nanny who comes half days to help with Tommy. The (ensuite) guestroom is ready to receive visitors, so when you fancy a trip over here, let us know. As yet, no one has given us definite intention of visiting (except Gill and John who we’ll be seeing here at Christmas). Please put a comment here if you are planning to come and see us this year.

PS, Our mobiles still work, but as yet our landline remains disconnected.

I’m up for it! Not sure when though. Your place sounds amazing. Just how does your garden grow? Is it Cockle Shells and Pretty Bells? Or are we talking sausage and baobab trees?
When is a good time of year?
Can’t wait. And Ismay is mising Tommy something rotten. We were round at your house earlier and she wanted to phone Tommy, I’ll let her call you guys tomorrow. All’s well here, and your window’s done! Looks great!
    Lots oflove,

Tommy’s missing Ismay too. As for when is a good time to visit, it depends. The weather here will enter a rainy season in March/April that extends to about a month or two. After that, its the coolest time of year. The next rains are short and should come in November/December. After that, January/February are very hot. A friend of ours owns a place on an island in the lake, so that might be something else to do.

For game viewing, I think the Mara migration out is in April and back is November. There are lots of other things to do and see though, so no particular time is best.

Glad the house is doing well. Sorry this site’s a bit bare of late. Now we’re settled at home, I should be able to set aside time each week to upload stuff. A friend has said I can use his work connection as the internet cafes that allow me to plug in the laptop have about 80% of the ports closed, making it difficult to use an FTP client

    How posh! : >

    How’s everything? What’s new?

Are you guys near this Giraffe Manor place at all? Boingboing just linked it today: http://www.giraffemanor.com.

David and Hannah, bathrooms. Essential - you did miss the easy bathtime, no baths in a bucket. But now you have home helps, gardeners and a nanny the household pressures are lifted for both of you. And David? will you shop, cook and learn other languages? What are you going to do with your time now you are liberated. Avoid politics.
Good to hear things are going well. I just work for Tesco!
Alan is clearing some of the cars away from his drive and the place is looking more like it used to. Still 14 cars in the garden.

Amber, that place is outside Nairobi, about 400 miles away, so I guess it is pretty near. It sounds a pretty cool place, but it horrifies me that half of Kenya’s population live on less than $1000 a year and Giraffe Manor would set you back more than that for a weekend break.

There are plenty of similar examples in this country though, and tourism is now one of the countries major exports (I think that’s the correct term. However you refer to it, tourism is a major source of forex for the Kenyan economy.

Mum, I’m still learning Swahili. An hour a day, 5 days a week. I still shop and cook and everything, I just have help. At the moment, Lillian, our live in help, speaks no english. As a result, my Swahili is having to improve rapidly! Today’s lesson covered object infixes, so I can talk to her without sounding like a three year old!

I’m still not updating the site enough for my liking. I’ll try to do a weekly post from next week. I should final;ly have a decent internet access starting next week.
