So, we have some new arrivals in the household. Last night Naila gave birth to 9 puppies. They are all doing well, despite us having to move them when they were about an hour old.

Names: Albert, Barbara, Clarence, Darren, Earl, Fiona, Gerald, Inez, Jasper. I can forward a more complete list of suggested names. Please specify; Male, Female, Other.
Please do think of names… however, you might want to make them either biblical or Luo. Anything else will struggle to be said around here…
We’re going to look after the puppies until they are three months old. It looks like we will have a small fortune to pay in vet bills during this time…
They’re not our dogs (and thus, not our puppies), but we know that the only way they will be looked after properly is if we do it. The vet came yesterday and gave Naila a booster shot. The pups are due one set of jabs in 4 weeks and another set in a couple of months. Luckily the vet says they should fetch a good price, if we want to charge for them. We’ve contacted the owner (our landlord) and asked her what she wants to do. We haven’t heard back yet.
The mother is a Doberman/Rottweiler cross and the father is a pure Doberman. Three of the pups are chocolate coloured. I’m hoping all nine will make it. This is Naila’s first litter apparently. She’s been pretty good so far. She was rolling on them all the time at first, but now she’s picking them up, arranging them and then lying down. If she hears a squeak, she gets back up and rearranges again. They’re all asleep in the laundry at the moment. We’ve made a little nest for them there. Dad’s been relegated to the kennels. He looks a bit wierded out…
I don’t think we’ll name them for a little while yet. They’re still very small (24hrs old) and I’d like Tommy to be involved in naming them. I want to make sure one doesn’t kark it just after he’s named it…
I think we might keep one of the chocolate coloured ones, but we’ve heard sweet FA from the owner so far, so who knows what will happen.
David and Tommy both want to keep one of the puppies! Help! If we keep one and fall in love with it we’ll never be able to pay to bring it back into the UK…will we? Is it six months of non-human contact? At huge expense? Help me persuade them it’s a bad idea please!
We lost one of the puppies about an hour ago. It was a brown female. Somehow during the day, Naila split the puppies and was only suckling half of them. This female was one of the ones who got separated.
There are two surviving chocolate pups (as well as six others).
Seriously, If anyone has any tips about how to look after pups and how to deal with the mother (for example, how to get her to lie down) please let us know by posting something here.
Today we saw the first pup to open its eyes. It made a bee line for the exit, so we’ve put up chicken wire. They’re really funny to watch at the moment as they are just on the edge of walking. They sort of drag themselves up a bit, take a step or two, then roll right over as they lose there balance…
We lost another one last night. The wierd thing is, it was the boldest strongest pup that died. We think the mother must have rolled over and smothered it.
can you send me pictures of the father and mother1 I have a pure bred fawn doberman pincher 9 weeks 25 pounds and I was wondering what she looks like being a cross between rotty and dobe mix. being the same color1 thanks Sarah

OK, so tips needed. How do you stop the mother rolling on her pups? I have to keep popping outside and rescuing them…
